It's official: Tampa has adopted the four Gainesville siblings that make up Dear & Glorious Physician.
Westfall spawn have created an exciting and primal but still smart and catchy garage/indie-rock sound, and several kick-ass New World shows have quickly made them favorites with local original-music devotees. The Bay's own New Granada Records (home to such impeccable homegrown music as Candy Bars and Zillionaire) has stepped up to re-release D&GP's self-titled full-length; originally released last year to extremely limited distribution, Dear & Glorious Physician is a record that can hang with the best of the national discs — it deserves the kind of widespread notice New Granada is getting these days. You'll get a copy free when you fork over the seven-bone cover for Saturday's celebration, as well as more great Florida music in the form of poetic-pop expressionists Candy Bars and Modern, an adventurous space-pop outfit back in action after a lengthy relocation/re-relocation/hiatus.
Dear & Glorious Physician/Candy Bars/Modern, Saturday, July 22 @ New World Brewery, Ybor City. 9 p.m.; $7 (includes copy of CD).
