The Hip Hop ABCs has taught me to expect the unexpected. Last week's winner proved a shocker and it had me seriously questioning the validity of our laissez faire approach to this alphabet-driven hip hop hierarchy. There were no such foundation shaking with the Letter U.  UGK, the Underground Kings, are repeat winners of the Letter U and they defended their crown in a dominant fashion. With more than 80 percent of the votes, Bun B and Pimp C crushed the competition. No one else had more than nine percent.

UGK was a great example of how well differing styles can fit together seamlessly. Bun B’s borderline didactic straightforward aura was complimented by Pimp C’s smooth, almost melodic cadence. The Port Arthur, Texas natives helped put the entire south on the map. I’m not sure the world would have been treated to the force that is Outkast had UGK not paved the way first. I certainly hope everyone reading this article knows they already had skins on the wall when Jay-Z came calling in 2000.
