Tonight, Daddy Kool Records marks the release of The Roots' long-awaited new album, How I Got Over, with a listening party at the The Local 662 in St. Petersburg from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Beginning at 10 p.m., Brian Mellgren rolls out a playlist of hip-hop and R&B classics paired with various new jams by Native Tongues, Dilla and "whatever else is laying around" followed by back-to-back spins of the new Roots album starting post-11 p.m. The night will end with spins of a few Roots rarities and live tracks. The album officially hits shelves tomorrow, June 22, via Def Jam, and Daddy Kool will be releasing copies beginning at midnight. The $10 admission to the listening gets you a copy of How I Got Over album and a free poster.

If you want to take a peek at the album now, the band is currently streaming the album on their Myspace page. I'm digging on it right now, although I wasn't real impressed by the track they played with Jim James (Yim Yames) on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last week. Check it out after the jump and tell me what you think…
