THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17

The Gills [pictured, photo by Cook Images] w/Alexander/Proud Iron Lion/Beardsley The Gills of Pensacola, Fla. produce hard-hitting vintage psychedelic rock ‘n’ roll with Southern-flavored cock-rocking riffs, heavy pounding beats, bluesy swells of organ, and the soulful gritty vocals of frontman/guitarist Jesse Wheeler. Wheeler first started playing music after he was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia and fusarium, and used it as therapy to get him through the dark times. In 2007, after making it through his health crisis, he formed The Gills with fellow cancer survivor, guitarist Nathan Dillaha, rhythm section brothers, Matthew and Andrew Prince on drums and bass, respectively, and pianist/multi-instrumentalist Allan Castleberry. The band released their debut, Forget What You See, in May. 9 p.m., New World Brewery, Ybor City, $6.

Judy Tampa and Bunko Squad w/Harry Hayward/Marc Carufel Judy Tampa is a Tampa native whose band has recently released a new album, Tainted, a blend of Old West Americana, alt country and folk marked by lazy slide guitar and Judy’s jazzy rich drawl. 7 p.m., Tre Amici @ The Bunker, Ybor City, free admission.
