Surf rock is alive and well in our corner of the world, according to Jonathan Davis, the leader and founder of local act Tidal Wave. Boasting a new, downright infectious six-song vinyl EP of instrumental tunes, Davis pays homage to the slinky, catchy sounds that became synonymous with surf culture in the ‘60s.

In an act of sheer reverence for the art form, Endless Summer was mixed in mono and possesses that unmistakable, authentic lo-fi sound that recalls some of the most enduring, classic surf rock hits of the past. “Surf Rocket” alone is worth the price of admission, but it’s not just the music that’s the talking point here.

This 7”-single/EP (Funky Board Records) was cut as a handmade lathe using authentic machinery, so it’s likely that the genuine sound is partly attributed to the equipment used to make this shimmering piece of transparent vinyl that sounds so warm and familiar.
