The first single off of the 33-year-old’s new, Daniel Radcliffe-narrated album Kyle Gordon Is Everywhere is a style parody of Paul Simon’s Graceland album, and we absolutely hate just how accurate it is.
The New York-based satirist, often described as “the modern-day ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic,” sings as Barry Bergen, a fictional American tourist who went to Africa in the ‘80s, asked a local for some wisdom, and ended up winning the Pulitzer Prize for a song he penned based on that encounter.
“I couldn’t speak his language, I couldn’t even understand a word/But I knew his meaning was what I decided I had heard,” Bergen sings.
Even before that became the parody of the summer, Gordon was no stranger to making fun of tourists. In 2022, one of his TikTok skits centered around how clout-powered tourists pose for photos in front of public memorials.
If you’re also cynical about out-of-towners, or even if you just want to hear style parodies about Obama-era millennials who think they’ll never die and ‘50s rock stars dating someone far too young, you’ll want to head to New World this Sunday.
