Check out three noteworthy concerts that are happening on this Tue., April 12.
Chris Pureka Since releasing 2010’s How I Learned to See in the Dark, Portland singer-songwriter Chris Pureka has supported the likes of Dar Williams, Cowboy Junkies, Ani DiFranco and The Lumineers. She finally released a follow-up of twangy-emotive folk rock a few weeks ago: Back in the Ring, the melancholy guitar phrasing of its post-breakup title track matching Pureka’s forlorn vocal quality. (Hideaway Café & Recording Studio, St. Petersburg)
Calidore String Quartet A young virtuosic four-piece (cellist Estelle Choi, violinists Jeffrey Myers and Ryan Meehan, and viola player Jeremy Berry) joins Palladium Chamber Players pianist Jeewon Park for this concert that includes Brahms’ Piano Quintet in f minor, among other selections. (Palladium Theater, St. Petersburg)
Rita Wilson She’s not only an actress/producer and wife to Tom Hanks, but a songstress with a few albums to her credit. Rita Wilson’s just-released self-titled outing of folk-roots-flavored AC pop rock is her second, but it’s her first stab at original songwriting (with help from the likes of Richard Marx, Sugarland's Kristian Bush and Nathan Chapman, producer of all five Taylor Swift albums). The result is one-part catharsis, one-part peek into the life of Rita. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater)
