New Belgium’s Tour de Fat w/Corey Harper/Luxury Mane An excellent opportunity to see a star on the rise is coming up this week at Jannus. At first look, you might think that Harper is another Youtube star. His rise to fame would also lend to this suggestion, as many fans came to know him as he opened shows for Cody Simpson and Justin Bieber. But don’t let this fool you. Harper’s musical affinity is anything but pop. A self-taught guitar player, the 22-year-old resides mostly in the blues and Americana genre. Despite not having a full length commercial release to his name, the Oregon-native has been touring on the strength of his On The Run EP and a run of 2017 singles. His take on neo-rock and soul has drawn comparisons to the likes of John Mayer, and for $15 a ticket is definitely worth checking this out. The official afterparty is at The Bends, and details on that are available below. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg) INFO —LJ
Mon Laferte UPDATE: This show has been cancelled due to illness. No makeup date has been announced, but refunds can be had where you bought your ticket. “Carretear!” For those who aren’t familiar with Chilean slang, that means “party!” And that’s what we’ll be doing at the Ritz when Chilean-native Mon Laferte stops by the Ritz. The multi-talented artist, who now lives and records in Mexico had been quiet on the music front for a while, with no new albums since 2015. She dropped a single (“Amarrame”) earlier this year, however, and may be gearing up for a new project in the future. (The Ritz, Ybor City) CANCELLED —LJ
