Something Else Thursdays w/Santos/Bobby Duke/Rude 100/Wally Clark The last week has been anything but wavy, so it’ll be nice to be on the patio at this Lowry Park area beer garden where Wally Clark and Rude 100’s Something Else Thursdays future sounds night welcomes Bluuzone collaborative member Santos to come play a little future beat and soul, neu-R&B, hip-hop and downtempo. Plastic Pinks w/Soapbox Soliloquy Iggy Pop-approved garage rock stops in St. Pete on its way back to the waterlogged city of Miami (Plastic Pinks, a band Pop played on his BBC radio show, has been on tour while Irmageddon wreaked havoc on Florida), and the band will be joined by St. Pete psychedelic/fagcore outfit Soapbox Soliloquy. Jaialai w/Luxury Mane/Sun Signs Cigar City Brewing has made sure that the term “Jai Alai” stays associated with Tampa Bay, but a psych-rock band with the same name as the brewery’s famed IPA is gaining notoriety for itself in the Magic City. “We used to have a shitty name [that] didn’t go with our music,” the band told the Miami New Times in June. “We were thinking of other names when we were drinking Jai Alai beers. We thought that was a cool name, especially when we learned the place jai alai is played more than anywhere outside Spain is right here in Miami.” The quartet’s new EP — When I’m On the Run — rounds up guitarist Oscar Sardinia & the boys’ love for Radiohead and Unknown Mortal Orchestra and turns it into Jaialai’s own strain of stoned indie-pop. Luxury Mane opens alongside Christian Stewart’s Sun Signs project, which will preview songs it has been working on as it pieces together the follow-up to an excellent eponymous 2015 LP. Deconstructing The Beatles’ Rubber Soul The Tampa Theatre was lucky to avoid a felled tree (and had its technical director and director of operations play guardian during the storm after being evacuated from their homes) on the way to an incident-free Irmageddon, and here’s a good chance to appreciate the beauty of the building when composer/producer Scott Freiman breaks down the Fab Four’s revered 1965 LP. Zoogma w/Cofresi/Future Vintage/Holey Miss Moley Fans have been waiting to get a taste of Zoogma’s new LP, A Future in Blue, and this is a good chance for the rock-tronic quartet to use a famously energetic live show to breathe a little life back into an Irma-shellshocked Ybor City music scene. Chicago beatsmith Cofresi opens the show EDIT: Zoogma didn't want to travel due to the storm. Bay area funk band Future Vintage leads this one now, and you’ve got to think that the travelling bands are raring to go after Pollstar reported that the tour postponed a September 10 Charleston date to stay out of the hurricane. POSTPONED: Mutlu Love watching Live From Daryl’s House? Then you already know Mutlu who has guested on Daryl Hall’s online show more than anyone else. Have no clue who the Philadelphia singer-songwriter is? A drink of his 2016 Caffeine & Whiskey is a good introduction. (Ruth Eckerd Hall Murray Studio Theater at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater) INFO
