Three live music events happening this Tue., June 16. Take a look at the breakdown below.
Meridian with Snacking, Worst Party Ever, Lauren Rotz Their bandcamp bio reads, “an existential crisis you can sing along to,” and Ohio’s Meridian delivers in heartening folk rock odes marked by catchy-wistful chord progressions (the sort that evoke unidentified nostalgia), and paired with the sweetly melodic vocal harmonies of frontmen/brothers Max and Jake Stern, who trade off on the banjos and guitars driving the instrumentals. Meridian isn’t afraid to turn up the amps, however; a new split 7” with Pinch Hitter (which is the impetus behind their current tour and this evening in-store performance) takes on grungy power pop hues with distorted guitars and Weezer-esque vocal qualities. RIYL: The Mountain Goats, Frank Turner, The Weakerthans. (Mojo Books & Records, Tampa)
Big Daddy Love The five North Carolina musicians who make up Big Daddy Love draw inspiration from the Appalachian mountains near their Winston-Salem but take their banjo-plucked roots into jammy, dueling guitar-fueled rock n’ blues territories. For fans of Widespread Panic. (Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa)
Tuesday Original Music Series JUN純 welcomes artists to play the Ale and the Witch courtyard stage every Tuesday. This time around, talents from the MIRA SPC program perform. Kids and doggies welcome. Admission is free. (Ale and the Witch, St. Petersburg)
