An eclectic range of shows on this Thurs., Dec. 4.

Modern Baseball Pushing out punchy pop-punk and emo-imbued indie rock from Philly, Modern Baseball is piloted by the youthful pipings and lyrical musings of guitarist/singer Brendan Lukens and bolstered by three-part vocal harmonies and tight, punchy instrumentals of his bandmates; the quartet – which came up in the same university-area basement scene as The Menzingers – are touring behind a sophomore LP, You’re Gonna Miss It All, which dropped in September. (Epic Problem, Tampa)

Koffin Kats The annual fall stop by Detroit punk-psychobilly trio Koffin Kats, which issued an eighth full-length, Born of the Motor, last year and balances wildly hurtling rhythms and ferocious roars with more bouncy ambling breaks and big resonant drawling belt-outs, frontman Vic Victor leading the pack with mohawked fervor and upright bass thrashing. (Orpheum, Ybor City)

Friend Roulette with Jude Brooklyn sextet Friend Roulette crafts a bright, effervescent flavor of avant pop with heavy-handed chamber and synth-psych rock sonic accoutremements by way of the instrumentation of its members; dulcet-voiced singer Julie Tepper also plays violin, John Stanesco juggles bass clarinet and electronic wind instruments, and two members — Tlacael Esparza and Kyle Olson — pound out percussive-infused rhythms. High quality stuff. (The Hub, downtown Tampa)
