The weekend is right around the corner, why not start your concert going early? Here's a breakdown of what's happening on this last day in March (Thurs., March 31).
of Montreal with Pillar Point Kevin Barnes just keeps venturing into new sonic territories, and he’s used of Montreal as a vehicle for his musical vision since forming the band in 1996. He and his rotating cast of back-up musicians (which change periodically to better correspond with that aforementioned vision) have churned out an impressive 13 LPs, nine EPs and a live double album, Snare Lustrous Doomings, issued as part of Record Store Day last year. All showcase a significant evolution, from the more straightforward lo-fi indie pop of the early years, to the marriage of funk, glam, pop and psychedelic rock we’re hearing from of Montreal most recently ala 2015’s Aureate Gloom. (Orpheum, Ybor City)
GIFF/Reel Deal Film Series: Have Gun, Will Travel and Friends Perform The Last Waltz Check out last week’s story about the doc here. (Crowbar, Ybor City)
Classic Albums Live: Led Zeppelin I Led Zeppelin’s 1969 debut is the latest selection from the concert series that brings seminal classic rock albums to life on stage, re-creating the entirety of each note for note; on this night, you’ll hear “Communication Breakdown,” “Dazed and Confused,” “Heartbreaker,” “Good Times Bad Times” and all the rest. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater)
The Weight with Steve Connelly & The Lesser Gods In an ironic twist of fate, on the same night that GIFF presents Have Gun, Will Travel and Friends Perform The Last Waltz (a doc dedicated to the doc about The Band’s last stand), The Weight (featuring musicians who played in various Band incarnations, and with Band primaries Levon Helm and Rick Danko) bring their show featuring music by all of the above to the Skipperdome. They are: Jim Weider, Randy Ciarlante, Brian Mitchell, Albert Rogers and Marty Grebb. (Skipper's Smokehouse, Tampa)
