Post Animal w/FayRoy/Luxury Mane As fans of Stranger Things, we were stoked to learn that Post Animal, a Chicago rock and roll band featuring Joe Keery (Steve, Nancy's boyfriend) on guitar, would be playing Ybor. Unfortunately, filming conflicts are preventing Keery from touring with the band on this leg, but the news is still a win-win. Why? For starters, it means that we’re getting closer to season two of the Netflix hit series. More importantly, not having Keery in guitar isn’t going to take too much away from the the heavy psych-pop, Toro Y Moi x Tame Impala vibes on Post Animal’s March 2016 single, "When I Get Home." Plus, Post Animal has been doing its thing since way before we all pretended to care about Demogorgon and 80's synth soundtracks. The addition of CL faves FayRoy and Luxury Mane means that plenty of new faces will still get to see quality Bay area locals for the first time, too. (New World Brewery, Ybor City) INFO
Habstrakt The latest show in the # Friday series (that’s “pound,” by the way) features a man who has been touring globally while somehow managing to just now hit the U.S. electronic scene. French producer Adam Habstrakt — who remixes of EDM dubstep songs by pairing them with his infusion of bass and house production — may be a relative unknown in the States, but he’s probably be ready to assume the spotlight after working on hits with DJs like Diplo, Skrillex and DJ Snake. Adding to the intrigue of this show is the possibility of catching it without paying a cover since you can sign up for a free guest list spot on the Ritz’s website. (The Ritz, Ybor City) INFO
Rick Ross Ricky Rozay, the XXL-sized Miami-rapper otherwise known as Rick Ross has been a bit of an enigma since he joined the music industry on the heels of a 2006 debut, Port of Miami. When he isn’t running his Wingstop franchises (he owns nine across the country) or dissing Bird Man on the side (he once rapped that Birdman has fake watches) Ross manages to cling to relevance in a fast-paced music industry thanks to connections within the Miami-Dade rap scene (read: DJ Khaled). Ross’s 2017 album, Rather You Than Me, featured a who’s who of names as far as features go, and it was met with generally positive reviews, but fans not used to late night hip-hop shows at untested venues are going to want to be weary of this rare opportunity to catch the South Beach rapper, who barely tours outside of promotional and festival appearances.
