Ella Americana Folk Art Cafe is normally closed on Mondays but Late Start Brewery takes over the Seminole Heights restaurant and live music spot, serves up four of its artisanal beers (flavors TBA), and stages a live local showcase headed up by Sun Signs with gritty, howling, guitar-driven experimental (“expire-mental”) rock. Fiery back-up by Mike Mass, whose savage lyrical skill and incredible wit shines in every track he drops; he also has some solid production chops, avoiding much of the genre’s amateurish pitfalls. Dawns rounds it out with dark-tinged alt rock.
The $10 admission includes free Late Start brews (the tap list includes Tampa Porter Authority, Jeffe-Wizen, SMASH Pale Ale, and Honey Pablo Blonde Ale), Flavor Deluxx provides the eats, and Commune + Co. serves up the caffeine. The festivities kick off at 7 p.m. at Ella’s Americana Folk Art Café, 5119 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa.
