A look at some concerts happening this Tue., April 5.

They Might Be Giants A couple of Johns (Flansburgh and Linnell) have been spreading quirky charm and plying tongue-in-cheeky often youth-friendly and informational rock ditties as leaders of They Might Be Giants since coming together in the early ‘80s, and have managed to offer a fresh take on topics ranging from the ABCs and palindromes to the shadow government and lazy boyfriends through 19 albums. This date finds the band fresh off releasing the final Dial-a-Song LP, Phone Power. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)

Eye of the Destroyer with Percussor, Blistering, Defilement Up and comers Eye of the Destroyer bring blackened destruction in a crushing sweep of mayhem and disorder. The group’s lyrics paint a nightmarish hellscape reminiscent of early exploit films, 1980s horror and American grindhouse cinema. Slams and gore stain the band’s performance and offer a good old school death metal vibe. (Brass Mug, Tampa) –Justin Croteau

Larry Coryell with Nate Najar Leader of NYC’s post-bop movement since creeping onto the circuit in the mid-‘60s, jazz fusion guitarist Lary Coryell is renowned for his improvisational capabilities, technical prowess and venturing outside the traditional jazz box with his electric axe virtuosity and edgier tonal qualities. He’s recorded more than 100 albums that touch on collabs with the likes of John McLaughlin, Charles Mingus and Herbie Mann. On this night, he’ll be fret-flying solo, with warm up by finger-style phenom Nate Najar as accompanied by bassist John Lamb. (Palladium Theater, St. Petersburg)
