It's a jam-packed night of concerts on this Fri., Jan. 22. Take a look at the breakdown of highlights below, then check out what else is happening tonight and peep the concerts coming up this weekend…

Wynonna & The Big Noise After three decades of building up a rep as a country star, Wynonna Judd has been experimenting with sounds outside her preferred genre with her new band The Big Noise, and their forthcoming album –Wynonna and The Big Noise, due out February 12 – that has a twang-roots foundation infused with heavy doses of soul, blues, rock n’ roll and Americana. Lead-off track “Ain’t No Thing” introduces her fresh full-bodied direction with big beats that stomp and swagger and a guest appearance by Susan Tedeschi, who delivers howling guitar licks and adds fine backing harmonies to Judd’s own belting commands. Other guests include Tedeschi’s fret-caressing husband, Derek Trucks and alt country singer-songwriter Jason Isbell. We approve. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater)

Double Pleasure Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association welcomes this grooving ensemble composed of pianist Richard Drexler, guitarist Bobby Koelble, bassist Maricio Rodriguez, conga player Frankie Pinerio, drummer Marty Morell, vocalist/percussionist Michiko Morell and tenor saxman Jeff Rupert, with special guest of musical renown, Russ Little on trombone. Double Pleasure plays select cuts from two freshly-released albums: In the Morning and En Plein Air. (Palladium Theater, St. Petersburg)

Slocan Ramblers The material on Coffee Creek – the 2015 second and latest album from Toronto bluegrass quartet Slocan Ramblers – is a mix of finely-wrought originals, tightly-spun traditionals by the likes of Woody Guthrie, Roy Acuff and Dave Evans, and sometimes a mash-up of both ala the "Pastures of Plenty/Honey Babe" medley. The musicianship of each band member is hard to refute; lead singer and banjoman Frank Evans delivers creative three-finger style with clawhammer capabilities, Adrian Gross adds elegant mandolin melodies, guitarist Darryl Poulsen is restrained and fluid as he juggles soloing and rhythmic duties, and Alastair Whitehead brings bowing dimension to his upright bass plucks. (Jaeb Theater at Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Tampa)

Billy Joel Two years ago when he performed in Tampa, he serenaded a sell-out crowd. The Piano Man comes sailing back to the same venue with no new output since his LP of classical compositions in 2001 and before that, 1991’s River of Dreams. But his iron-clad catalog of hits span three decades and his unrelentingly loyal fanbase stretches through a few generations, so this date has just as much sell-out potential as the last one. (Amalie Arena, Tampa)

Strangled Darlings Drawing inspiration from author William Faulkner in their name and Southern gothic style of folk-Americana, Strangled Darlings is roving partners/collaborators George Veech and Jess Anderly. The couple lives and tours in a 20-foot-RV. He has a degree in English Lit echoed in erudite subject matter and tight picking and plucking mandolin chops, while Jess – a classically-trained violinist whose primary instrument is now solid body custom cello – delivers counter melodies, lowend grooves and foot percussion, her husky-honeyed backing harmonies a tuneful counter to his tarnished tenor in their bouncy shambling, Southern gothic folk-Americana odes. (Ella’s Americana Folk Art Café, Tampa)

Galactic with The Record Company On their return to St. Pete, the jammy Stanton Moore-powered New Orleans funk-jazz mainstay comes bearing fresh LP Into the Deep, featuring a who’s who of guest vocalists that Galactic has formed ties with over their more than two decades of playing, among them, JJ Grey howling robustly against the dirty grinding urgency of “Higher and Higher” and Macy Gray crowing soulful verses that soar above the title track’s easy ambling grooves. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg)

Bleeth with Spar, Thunderclap Leading this metallic Destroyer Fest bill is Bleeth, a Miami three-piece that’s been slathering the Florida scene with oozing stoner grind and psych-grunge noise for about a year, the fuzzy riffs, sullen growls and ragged howls of guitarist Laura Palma and bassist Ryan Rivas traded over trudging or faster-roiling tempos of drummer Juan David Londono. Also playing this night: St. Pete’s Spar, a hard-driving instrumental outfit encompassing members of flyingsnakes, Dukes of Hillsborough and Vices; Gainesville Southern sludgy trio Thunderclap; and a surprise TBA doom band. (Fubar, St. Petersburg)
