Break out the whipped cream, because Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass has announced a run of southern U.S. shows, including one in the Tampa Bay area.
If Homer Simpson’s version of “Spanish Flea” doesn’t ring any bells, you’ve probably come across the 90-year-old’s album Whipped Cream and Other Delights in the dollar bin at thrift or record stores at least once. The easy-listening record (which spent close to three years on the Top 40 chart collectively) turns 60 this year, and Alpert recently assembled a brand-new touring group of musicians to summon the vibes of the album’s original repertoire.
He also co-founded A&M Records in 1962, which gave us the likes of Billy Preston, The Police and Carole King, so maybe bring an extra shred of appreciation with you to his first show in town since 2022.
