Run for your life, because Twisted Sister (well, what’s left of it anyway) is finally ready to hit the road again, and its last gig of the year is happening in downtown St. Pete this December.
Following an axed 50th anniversary reunion tour, a split with bassist Mark Mendoza, and the health-related retirement of longtime frontman Dee Snider, remaining members Jay Jay French and Eddie “Fingers” Ojeda have booked a handful of sporadic comeback shows. And as if the lineup weren’t stacked enough—with Poison drummer Rikki Rockett’s new project Rockett Mafia and Britny Fox—Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach will be filling Snider’s platform boots.
In a recent interview, Bach confirmed that Snider personally gave him his blessing to keep the band going, and he sees his new gig fronting the glam-metal outfit the same way he saw Paul Rodgers fronting Queen. Not to mention how he’s more of a fan of the early, pre-“We’re Not Gonna Take It” days. “I don’t just like the hits of Twisted Sister. I like ‘Like A Knife In The Back’. I like the heavy Twisted Sister,” Bach declared.
The show comes less than a year after Bach played a career retrospective on his 58th birthday in the same space, which he implied beforehand wasn’t solely fueled by nostalgia. As for Twisted Sister, there hasn’t been a local show under that name since a Jannus Landing stop in 2005, where it played the vast majority of its 1984 breakthrough album Stay Hungry.
