Saturday night’s indie-rock is a hot ticket happening at Tampa’s Hooch and Hive, and that’s no surprise because the show finds local promoter Aestheticized Presents staging its first show since March of 2020.
Mostly instrumental indie-rock act Unwed Sailor—which played The Hub in 2019—headlines the gig at the West River venue, and if you’re a fan of Explosions in the Sky you’ll probably dig it. Formed in ‘98 by Johnathon Ford, who rocked with Pedro the Lion for a bit, the three-piece is touring in support of its May album Truth or Consequences. The ‘80s influences Ford claims are highly present on the new album, and it’s all good stuff like The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
Brooklyn’s Lapêche—whose recent amazing album Blood in the Water came out via Tampa’s New Granada Records—is also on the bill, and Tampa’s own instrumental outfit Gullwing opens.
This show will require require proof of negative covid test within 72 hours of the show, or provide proof of vaccination as an alternative.
