Van Plating performs a hometown show, celebrating her new album The Way Down. She dropped her first name (Rachel) from the band moniker after her 2019 self-titled debut, but Van Plating has gained experience and depth in her music in return; just listen to The Way Down’s first single “How Lonely,” with instrumentation is reminiscent of an uptempo version of “Wicked Game” made better by an even sultrier vocal. “This song was written during quarantine, but it’s not about that. It’s about the ongoing dance between lovers who’ve lived many lives side by side,” Van Plating wrote.
