Merchandise Credit: 4AD

It’s been a solid year since Tampa’s own Merchandise released their 4AD Records debut, After the End. Today, Carson Cox & Co. released a video for new single, “Flowers of Sex” off a forthcoming sophomore album (also due to be dropped via 4AD).

The five-minute clip is all kinds of righteous psychedelia and was directed and edited by Cox, and shot in Venice (Italy), Staten Island, and Sarasota.

The boys have also announced an 18-date tour that features two Florida stops, September 22 in Miami and September 24 in Gainesville. Have a look at the video below.

T’was fundraising week at community radio station WMNF, and while there are bevy of great shows to throw your money at, this our chance to highlight two of them: Saturday Asylum and Grand National Championships.

The shows joined forces to capture Athens, Ga. indie rock legends Five Eight as they blazed through a 20-minute session that was recorded live from WMNF’s Mike Eisenstadt Live Music Studio last year. Life responsibilities get in the way of editing video, so the clip is just seeing the light of day now, but some things are definitely worth the wait.

“Carrie Waite, who shot this performance along with Katherine Gomeztagle-Johann and myself, is more responsible than anyone for helping me to establish the aesthetics of the visual component,” Alastair St. Hill told CL. “In addition to giving so much of her time to the station, she’s showed me how to get the most out of $5 lights and make the Mike Eisenstadt studio look its best.” St. Hill, 37, added that the GNC Session short films are meant to have a bit of grain to them rather than anything that looks too crisp or has too high a frame rate.

“I just feel more comfortable when it’s a bit ramshackle,” he said. Check it out below, and head over to wmnf.org to donate some scratch to the non-profit broadcaster.

Preson Phillips wants to take you to the river. The Hillsborough River, to be exact. The 35-year-old songwriter and leader of Seminole Heights’ Watermark Church recently teamed up with filmmaker Dan Newman to record a handful of live acoustic videos featuring songs from his 2014 LP, In Our Winters.

The clips for “People Of His Choice” and “Behold the Architect” were filmed in the wee hours of the morning, released last week, and find Phillips strumming the shit out of his beat up, uniquely hole-y Takamine.

“[Behold] is a song about the divine mind of the universe, the great architect of all things, taking us somewhere, both individually and collectively. Building us into something more loving, more beautiful, and and more meaningful,” Phillips wrote to CL, “so I figured our beautiful city would be the perfect background for that story to be told.”
