An early example of cross-cultural world music, Native Dancer pairs saxophonist Shorter — at the time a recent Miles Davis alum making a mark with Weather Report — with Nascimento, the Brazilian singer/songwriter with a thrillingly high, ethereal falsetto. The stylistic emphasis is on Nascimento's gorgeous melodies; Shorter handles the embroidery, mostly on soprano sax. Native Dancer is lush, romantic, seductive, harmonically sophisticated and, above all, extraordinarily beautiful.
