Packing nines like September (Much respect if anyone knows what song those lyrics came from)! Yes, it's September, and it is officially the season of fall, although the official first day of Autumn doesn't arrive until September 22. Per usual I have collected 15 of the freshest tunes on the net and placed them into one tidy playlist. All you have to do is hit play!
Hamilton Leithauser and Rostam Batmanglij are working together on a new album titled, I Had A Dream That You Were Mine, releasing on September 23. Leithauser was the once lead singer from the Walkmen and Batmanglij is the now-former multi-instrumentalist for Vampire Weekend. The two have joined forces to create an album that many are eager to hear. "When The Truth Is…" is the duo's newest single and it's delightful. Channeling a doo-wop tune while adding some yearning vocals from Leithauser's excellent voice create an oldie-inspired jam. Batmanglij's musical prowess really shines here.
STRFKR just announced Being No One, Going Nowhere, their new full-length album due out Nov. 4. With that announcement came with their newest song from that album, "Tape Machine." It's a funk jam with some hits of psych-rock, electronic bleeps and lo-fi vocals. I'm ready for a full sampling of the new album and curious to see if "Tape Machine" is a sign of their evolving sound.
Bibio is back with his second release of 2016. A Mineral Love released earlier this year, now he's offering up The Serious EP, a collaborative effort with singer Olivier St. Louis. This week I chose "Stress Me Out," but the song is far from stressful. Here we have soulful vocals and funk-laden guitar riffs that make for a fun listen, although the lyrics are referring to a stressful love interest.
