Grizzly Bear is back from a five-year layoff, and they brought their shimmery new single "Three Rings" with them. Singer/guitarist Ed Droste's vocals are calming against the plethora of guitars, bass lines and keystrokes. I hear a fairly strong jazz influence intertwined, and I dig it. Grizzly Bear have always created great eclectic indie tunes, and "Three Rings" is par for the course. A new album is said to be on the horizon, stay tuned for details.
Routines is the brand new album from Bloomington, Indiana's Hoops, which is one of my favorite new groups. It specializes in blissed-out indie pop that borderlines the chillwave genre. This sound is heard throughout Routines, and it makes for one hell of a listen. Many of the songs clock in under the three minute mark, and for me that keeps the record fun and light. Routines is an excellent collection of music and one that could be a top five album come year end.
Many fans thought LCD Soundsystem was done creating new music. But after a 2016 reunion and rumors of a new album, James Murphy and company have gifted us with two new songs in "call the police" and "american dream." Its sound hasn't evolved much from six years ago, but I'm pretty sure that's the plan. Why fix something that isn't broken? Both songs span over six minutes in typical LCD fashion, and the standout of the two is "call the police." The indie rock scene is a better place with LCD Soundsystem in it. Glad to have you back, fellas.
