When I go to click play on a newly released song, it’s like opening up a little Christmas gift each time, and oh my how I love Christmas. Let’s celebrate 15 new little Christmas gifts together, for fifty-nine minutes. Don’t be afraid to hit repeat.
Where have The Killers been? It’s been five years since their last record, but they’ve returned with “The Man,” the first preview of Wonderful Wonderful, their fifth studio album. “The Man” taps into glammy disco-rock, but it’s the funky bass line that makes it a winner for me.
Washed Out‘s new jazzy chillwave song “Hard To Say Goodbye” has arrived just in time for those warm late nights. Ernest Greene announced his first album in four years as Washed Out, titled Mister Mellow, due out 6/30. Strings, synths and Greene’s layered croons sound smooth as ever. If you have yet to see Washed Out in person, then you can’t miss his performance at The Orpheum on July 15. I’ve seen him perform on two other occasions and I highly recommend you stroll on down to Ybor to spend an evening with Washed Out.
Big Boi, one half of the legendary duo Outkast, continues to release records and carry-on that southern hip-hop sound, and for the most part fans seem satisfied. Boomiverse is Big Boi’s third solo LP, proving he’s still capable of making a solid album, even if André 3000 doesn’t make an appearance. Big Boi benefits greatly from his longtime production team Organized Noise. A great example of this is the beat on “Order of Operations.” We may not have a new Outkast album, but Boomiverse is the next best thing. See photos from Big Boi’s recent set at Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Park here.
