The rain has made an impactful return, and I'm thankful because my yard no longer looks like the Mojave. Plus, it has given me an opportunity to review hoards of new music. Let's explore a few of the gems below.
Chaz Bear aka Toro y Moi can do little wrong. With his new song "Girl Like You" he proves that, but with more of an R&B approach than his recently released material. Chaz has always been extremely flexible with his sound, however "Girl Like You" feels more in his wheelhouse. It's a lushly produced soft groove. Look out for Toro y Moi's fifth studio LP Boo Boo, due out on July 7. This is an album that I've been waiting for and will probably be my summer sidekick.

Fleet Foxes have a new album, Crack-Up, releasing this Friday June 16, but decided to give us one more sample with their latest single "If You Need To, Keep Time On Me" This is my favorite song they've previewed from Crack-Up, with its folkie pop undertones and charming piano throughout the duration. There is a warm feeling here. Lead singer/songwriter Robin Pecknold’s skillful vocals emphasize the chorus, which has resonated in my ears for days.
The Drums newly released new single "Mirrors" shows the more vulnerable side of frontman Jonny Pierce. "Mirrors" is a self-evaluation track and paints an image many of us have or will face with self-doubt. While the lyrical content is more on the serious side, steady guitar plucks and surf guitar licks remain to keep things quite sunny. The Drums' new record Abysmal Thoughts will also be available Friday. The Drums play Crowbar in Ybor City on December 2. More information on the show is available via local.cltampa.com.
