✔️ Weezer w/the Pixies/The Wombats For seven weeks this summer, two titans of ’90s alternative rock will co-headline a run of shows that’ll have you trying to squeeze into a T-shirt you bought way back in middle school. The Pixies look a little different these days since Paz Lenchantin (who played bass or strings in bands like Entrance, A Perfect Circle, Zwan, and Queens of the Stone Age) took over bass duties in 2014, but Weezer is riding high on the success of its recent cover of Toto’s “Africa,” which fans have been clamoring about for months now (the track was streamed 2.8 million times and broke through the Billboard’s Top 100, making it Weezer’s first entry since early 2010). Expect Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo to tease a forthcoming album, The Black Album, and get there early to see The Wombats, whose new album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, is an electro-rock joyride. ✔️ Brother Cephus w/The Venus/Justin Depth Brother Cephus’s Saturday-night show at The Hub may be the most-memed local rock show of the year, but it’s best to log off and see what the hullabaloo is about in real life when it joins vintage, interstellar ’60s rock band The Venus and Justin Myers for a free gig at this beloved, heavy-handed downtown dive. Myers — who performs under the Justin Depth moniker — is supporting an early 2018 EP, Clear, where he weaves strands of waavy electro-pop together to make a meditative sound that’s the perfect soundtrack for smoking cigarettes and getting buzzed in the dark. There’s never a cover at The Hub, which is probably bad news for your liver. (The Hub, Tampa) INFO

SIBLING SONGS
Tampa’s Brother Cephus has a unique and ever-evolving creative process

Luke Bryan w/Sam Hunt/Jon Pardi/Morgan Wallen Does the idea of “Huntin’, Fishin’ & Lovin’ Every Day” really pump you up? Yeah? Well, then you probably already know about this stadium-sized summer country showdown featuring sizzling-hot, 41-year-old Travis Tritt and Billy Currington songwriter Luke Bryan. Get there early to experience tailgates, tanlines and a parking lot full of people doing their thing. (Raymond James Stadium, Tampa) INFO

GreyMarket w/Diealps!/Infinite Eights Greymarket says that it’s influenced by Supertramp, Gomez, and Genesis, but that its love for films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner and Star Wars bleeds through even more. The sci-fi space-rock duo plays a rare headlining set in Ybor in support of a 2016 EP, Dead Ends, and will be supported by Bay area indie-rock vets DieAlps! plus fresh-faced up-and-coming pop act Infinite Eights. (Crowbar, Ybor City) INFO

MYTHICAL MOHR
Tampa Bay songwriter Danielle Mohr is your Aphrodite in new video

Honeywhat live album recording w/Jordan Esker and the Hundred Percent Singer-songwriter Danielle Mohr’s new band, Honeywhat, is kinda-sorta skipping the studio and recording a live album at one of St. Petersburg’s most pristine listening rooms, Hideaway Café. The album should be ready about a month after this show, and we’re just here to remind you that heckling so that the tape can pick you up is kind of an asshole move. (Hideaway Café, St. Petersburg) INFO

✔️ Set and Setting w/Weltesser/Body Void/Horsewhip A trio of Bay area heavy-metal doombringers (post-rock band Set and Setting, crusty-hardcore quartet Horsewhip and fast-rising sludge-metal act Weltesser) plays host to a west coast trio, San Francisco-based Body Void, which is touring in support of a new droning collection of black metal, I Live Inside A Burning House. At least three songs on the effort clock in at over 15 minutes long (with album closer “Given” running 21-minutes), so don’t be surprised if Body Void spreads out and splits eardrums open at this one.
