Tampa Bay’s spring concert calendar is taking shape nicely and now includes a visit from one of Chicago’s finest indie-rock exports.

Wilco announced a month-long tour yesterday, including an April date at Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. The gig is billed as an evening with Wilco, meaning no-opener, which is cruel in the instance of this tour since Waxahatchee is scheduled to support all but three shows on the run.

Waxahatchee, the country-flavored rock band fronted by Katie Crutchfield, was just in St. Petersburg last summer, and has a direct connection to Wilco thanks to drummer Spencer Tweedy, who is the son of Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy.

Wilco is on the road in support of last year’s Hot Sun Cool Shroud EP. The band’s “evening with” show includes a short intermission.

Tickets to an evening with Wilco on Sunday, April 27 at the Duke Energy Center for the Arts at Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg go on sale to the public on Friday, Jan. 17, with ticket prices to be announced.
