Bay area fans hoping to see Jimmy Buffett after his June 2017 set in Tampa are going to have to travel — and listen to the “Margaritaville” singer stump for Democratic Florida gubernatorial candidate Gwen Graham — if they want to see their boy again.

The 71-year-old King of the Parrotheads has plenty of fans who sit on the left side of the aisle, and Buffett’s politics are no secret. He played a Tampa show for Obama in 2008, and in 2016 he performed alongside then vice president Joe Biden during a November 7 St. Pete rally supporting Hillary Clinton.

“It’s been too long since we have had a Governor for all the people,” Buffett said in a statement released by Graham’s campaign. “For that reason, I am supporting my friend, Democrat Gwen Graham, for governor and I encourage ya’ll to do the same.”

Question is whether or not his Republican backers will make it out to the free Hollywood, Florida show on Thursday, August 23. I mean, CL’s own Scott Harrell did illustrate this scenario after that 2016 campaign stop.

Tons of affluent middle-aged conservative white dudes who apparently assumed all middle-aged white dudes are the same were shocked to find out the guy who mostly writes about the American rat race being pointless bullshit isn’t a Republican. That’s like not knowing Toby Keith leans somewhat to the right, or that Ted Nugent is a huge douche. Oh my god, what’s next, Willie Nelson being liberal?

Details on the event — including how to get tickets — are forthcoming. Let your browser see that you’ve visited gwengraham.com to stay up-to-date on the latest.
