For months, Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano has been making the rounds in front of various local government agencies, detailing the airport's ambitious 20-year master plan. After its approval from the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority on Thursday morning, the plan has officially begun.
The board approved 5-0 to begin phase one of the project, which is to immediately work on "decongesting" the airport.
Lopano began his presentation by giving the big picture: that the airport industry has now faced a "paradigm shift," and while it used to be about simply keeping the floors and bathrooms clean, now airport executives like himself have to be more entrepreneurial.
