The last few years have been anything but funny for the Kolb family. First, doctors diagnosed oldest son Adam with a brain tumor. Then, last year, son Joe fell off a dock and hit his head, an injury that paralyzed him from the chest down. Their medical bills are approaching $1 million and this doesn’t even include the money they’ve spent making their home wheelchair accessible. Despite the serious circumstances, local comedy troupe Comics Reaching Out want to make you to laugh in support of the Kolbs at this Sunday night’s comedy benefit showcase. Veteran comic James Vernon, parody musician “Uncle” Dow Thomas and observational humorist OC — all local comics with TV credits ranging from BET to MTV, HBO and Showtime — headline the event. Sun., July 15, 6:30 p.m., Coconuts Comedy Club, 2950 Gulf to Bay Blvd., Clearwater, $15, 727-224-9735.
