Last August, the Third District Court of Appeals heard arguments from the state of Florida and attorneys for Martin Gill last fall on the state's ban on gay adoption, which a Miami-Dade County Judge ruled in November of 2008 was unconstitutional.  The state appealed that decision and the appeal was heard last August.

It's been nine months since that hearing, so any upcoming Wednesday (which is when that court announces its ruling) that decision could come down on the state's ban, the only one in the country that explicitly bans gays from adopting children.

This weekend the ACLU of Florida and the gay rights group Equality Florida are holding two events to discuss the ban.

This Friday night, from 7-8:30 p.m. at King of Peace MCC Church in St. Petersburg (3150 5th Ave.) Shelbi Day from the ACLU-Fl LGBT Advocacy Project, Martin Gill (the plaintiff in the lawsuit attempting to over the adoption ban), and Nadine Smith, the Executive Director of Equality Florida will hold a panel discussion on the adoption ban, the ACLU's legal challenge, and current legislative attempts to overturn the ban.

And on Saturday, there will be a four hour training session on how to " Learn the basic skills and information necessary to take a stand against Florida's ban on adoption by gays and lesbians.
