This afternoon, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections announced that Amalie Arena in downtown Tampa will be used for early voting during the upcoming 2020 general election.

The home of the Tampa Bay Lightning will allow those who wish to vote in person to do so from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., from Oct. 19-Nov. 1, says the office.

The site will also setup curbside tents, so that voters can drop off Vote-By-Mail ballots.

"I'm seeing our community come together in a very powerful way to support this election," said Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer in a statement.  "The Tampa Bay Lightning is one of many community partners who are getting involved through voter registration drives, voter education, poll worker recruitment and more. This is a unique opportunity because Amalie Arena does not have other scheduled events during the Early Voting period."

In total, the county will now have 25 early voting sites in the area.

The move comes shortly after the NBA also announced a similar plan last week for its arenas to be used as polling places.

You can also still request a Vote-By-Mail ballot, by visiting VoteHillsborough.org or call (813) 744-5900. The office will begin mailing ballots to requesters on September 24.
