No word on how he’ll feel about anything delivered over a Lin-Manuel Miranda arrangement, but former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum is set to appear at a community rap battle and cookout at Tampa’s Cyrus Greene Park next weekend.
Set for Saturday, August 17, the first annual Voices for Freedom cookout is being put together by Organize Florida and will feature local artists, vendors and guest speakers, including Gillum, who almost beat Ron DeSantis in his 2018 race for the governor’s mansion. A social media event page says that the purpose of the event — which also features a spades tournament — is to bring the “voices of our Tampa Bay community together.”
"The main focus if the event is voter registration especially for returning citizens as well as to reintroduce Organize Florida and our New Regional Director to the community," Organize Florida's Elton Lassiter told CL in a message. "We are raffling off 10 hair cut vouchers from various barber shops in the area… [and] are expecting 300 people."
