When Eric Davis started freeFall, he publicly stated that he intended it to become a home for the most uncompromising artistic quality anyone could idealistically ask for. Well, he’s lived up to his promise. Even if you didn’t like all the scripts that he chose for his 2013-2014 season, you had to admit that every one of their productions was first class, that every actor, designer, and director was aiming for the stratosphere, and that the only limitations the theater evidenced were the inevitable budgetary ones. Yeah, Davis could have chosen better than American Monkey and The Burnt Part Boys. But even these also-rans were beautifully put together. And The Mikado and The Normal Heart were pure gold.
