On the opening day of the Florida Legislative session this year, House Speaker Will Weatherford discussed his opposition to Medicaid expansion, but said he did believe in a safety net, saying that it helped his family afford medical for his brother, who died of brain cancer as an infant. The next day he told reporters that his brother’s health care had been provided by the Medically Needy program, financed by — Medicaid. And he still refused to drop his opposition to Medicaid expansion.
