“We created Second Screen Cult Cinema to not only show some terrific cult films that can’t be seen in any local theater, but to also emotionally engage a fresh audience and help energize Tampa’s urban core,” explained series co-founder Ann-Eliza Taylor, a local cultural maven who has chaired past Gasparilla arts events. Her husband, Brian Taylor, coincidentally, founded the Sleep of Reason Cinema series. Ann and her cohorts’ newer series has a decidedly social bent for discerning moviegoers. Co-founders Amy and Michael Martz, along with Taylor and Rion Sabean, make attendees feel welcome and relaxed in an intimate setting that could be off-putting to more introverted movie buffs, but is not. The trio shows the movies you won’t see in public anywhere else, in an elegant setting (The Vault at 611 Franklin St. in downtown Tampa) with first-rate cocktails and nibbles by local restaurants and caterers. Films are shown on the second Wednesday of each month. Next up: Dario Argento’s Suspiria.
