When the Devil Rays were looking for a way to pump up attendance at the Trop last year, they settled on a novel solution: free parking. Sure, we can argue over whether it would have been a better baseball investment to keep parking rates the same and use that cash to buy some arms for the bullpen, but there’s no debate that people love all things gratis. They love it so much that the Muvico Theater in BayWalk took note and followed suit this year. Parking at the BayWalk garage is now free for the first four hours to patrons who get their stub validated inside the theater. While we doubt this is a trend that will blanket the Bay area, we’re holding out hope that 2008 is the year free parking sweeps the area like the Macarena. While we’re at it, how about mandatory free valet parking?
