Movies, tunes, booze and popcorn are comfy bedfellows, but who the fuck wants to watch modern cinema garbage in a sterile, standard theater? That’s where Brokenmold and Crowbar filled a void with their Reel Deal Thursdays, where a flick like Purple Rain gets screened and then accented with a unique and related live performance (think David Bowie in Portuguese à la Tampa’s own Hector Mayoral for Reel Deel’s screening of The Life Aquatic). A few more (i.e., The Last Waltz) get the treatment this season, so you still have a chance to take it all in.
