Six days after Mayor Bill Foster declined to sign a proclamation citing June as LGBT Pride Month in St. Petersburg, he changed his mind, marking the first time any St. Pete mayor has declared a pride month in St. Pete.
The mayor's missing signature on last week's proclamation was notable seeing as all eight members of the City Council signed the document — also the first time in St. Pete's history.
"We're happy. He wrote it himself and it was very nicely worded," said Susan McGrath, president of the Pinellas Stonewall Democrats.
However Foster will not attend the Pride Parade, scheduled for Saturday, June 29.
