On Monday, the Florida Legislature picked up on the various issues it has been working on over the past two months, after the Senate took the entire week off and the House met just twice in recognition of the religious holidays.

One of the more radical measures being contemplated, House Speaker Dean Cannon's plan to reorganize the Florida Supreme Court, moved ahead in the Senate Budget Committee.

Cannon, who was visibly upset last year when the Court rejected several proposed constitutional amendments proposed by lawmakers, insists that his measure — which would expand the court from seven to 10 members and split them into two courts, one for civil cases and the other for criminal ones — is not punitive in nature.
