A five-spot goes a long way at TAPAS, an evening-long sampling of dance, theater, music, visual arts, and poetry presented by the Artist Advisory Committee of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County. The event showcases work by committee members, all practicing artists from a variety of disciplines, and friends. Check out performances by Moving Current Dance Collective — directed by Cynthia Hennessy, winner of a 2007 fellowship from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs — and dancers Phyllis Gaines and Jeff Karon; theatrical scenes directed by Charles Grimes; and poetry readings by Gianna Russo, Jay Hopler and Bettie Perez. An exhibit of visual art brings together paintings, photographs, and sculptures by artists Candace Knapp, James Vann, John Henne, Bjorn Andren, Stephen Cochrane and Lloyd Johnson. As if this weren't enough, refreshments are free (with a cash bar) and all proceeds benefit Community Stepping Stones, a Sulphur Springs-based teen arts program.
