Years ago, part of my regular Saturday morning routine was to make sure I was in earshot of Daniel Ruth's radio talk-show program that aired on 970 WFLA-AM in Tampa.

The acerbic and longtime Tampa Bay area newspaper columnist was an intelligent, witty and sane presence on the radio, and after the departure of Mark Beiro, he was the lone, let's say, non-conservative voice on 970's airwaves — until he was unceremoniously dumped by Clear Channel management back in 2008, that is (Update: Actually Ruth tells us he was treated very well by the station).

The venerable scribe, who now makes his living by penning columns for the Tampa Bay Times, returns to the airwaves on Saturday mornings, taking the 10 a.m.-noon slot on WWBA 820 AM.

His first show is this coming Saturday, March 30.
