A close-up, outdoor live-performance photograph of musician Andy Karpay playing the mandolin. Karpay, in the foreground, is wearing a brown felt cowboy hat, wire-rimmed glasses, and a long-sleeved, dark brown button-down shirt with a textured pattern. They have a graying beard and are smiling warmly at the camera while strumming the mandolin. Behind them, partially visible in the frame, another musician wearing a tan cowboy hat and a light-green long-sleeved shirt plays an acoustic guitar. The background shows an outdoor park setting with dappled sunlight through trees, and a small white banner in the distance that partially reads 'DEL'.

In many ways, Andy Karpay’s life was a song. A member of bluegrass band Florida Mountain Boys, the 73-year-old mandolin player and mechanical engineer died last November, but not before touching lives across the Americana scene.

Musicians who crossed paths with Karpay will jam in the courtyard outside this Ybor Heights brewery and distillery then move inside for an open mic.

Deviant Libation founder Tim Ogden, son of Karpay, has even revived what he’s calling the “NDK Wheat” to celebrate dad, who loved the American wheat Ogden made as a homebrewer.

“He used to request batches, and would bring clean bottles to sanitize and fill,” Ogden wrote on social media. “I can’t wait to share it with you.”

There’s no cover to see Andy’s Jam: Celebrating the Life of Andy Karpay at Deviant Libation in Tampa on Saturday, June 13.
