The Florida Orchestra, led by Alastair Willis, performs music from George Gershwin's An American In Paris, along with selections by Loewe, Bernstein and more. The music that inspired one of Gene Kelly's most famous performances includes standards like "I Got Rhythm," "'S Wonderful," "I'll Build A Stairway to Paradise" and "Our Love Is Here to Stay." The peak of the performance is that you get to hear the stunning climax ("An American In Paris") without the exhaustive, 18-minute long onscreen dance duet to distract you. A pre-concert talk about the musicians and composers begins one hour prior to the curtain. Complimentary coffee and doughnuts are provided. 11 a.m. Thurs., May 28. $24-$40. Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S., St. Petersburg. 727-892-5767. mahaffeytheater.com.
Geri X once more graces Tampa Bay music lovers with her aching, emotive vocals and edgy-folk brand of music. Accompanying her onstage are local rockers (and brothers) Ian and Evan Koteles of 10th Concession, who provide accessible, poppy tunes with a provocative bent. Market on 7th, for years the home to Demmi's Market (yep, that's where the name comes from), is the ideal setting for an interesting, introspective rock show: dark, a little dirty, and a lot of fun. 9 p.m. Thurs., May 28, Market on 7th, 1816 E. 7th Ave. and 18th St., Ybor City, 813-248-2356.
