In the aftermath of last year's presidential election, some cultural critics wondered if political humor might suffer in the Age of Obama. Regular viewers of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher know that hasn't been an issue with this cable talk show host/comic — but fans of Sarah Palin, George W. Bush, and other GOP icons should not think they'll get off any easier. Although Bill Maher once described himself as a Libertarian, in the Bush years he became an icon to many in the progressive movement. His 2003 appearance in Tampa, where he skewered Bush shortly after he had declared "mission accomplished" in Iraq, led some supporters of the former President to the exits. This time around, the religiously inclined and foes of health care reform may feel similar discomfort. Thurs. Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m., Carol Morsani Hall, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 1010 N. MacInnes Place, Tampa, $45.50-$68.50, tbpac.org. Mitch Perry
This week's installment in the surreal Dalí and Beyond cinema series is Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special, hosted, of course, by the weirdest and wackiest of the bunch, the Her-man himself, who gets into spirit of the season with lots of singing and dancing with his Playhouse pals and more than a dozen celebrity guests, like Frankie Avalon, Whoopi Goldberg, Joan Rivers, Charo, Magic Johnson, Oprah Winfrey, k.d. lang, Little Richard, Zsa Zsa Gabor and more. Thurs., Dec. 3, 6 p.m., Salvador Dali Museum, St. Petersburg, $5 after 5 p.m.
