"Art microscopist" T. H. Saunders showcases 60 examples of his craft in Art in Science — Science in Art. The pictures — captured with hi-def photography and precision optics microscopes — are dazzling images of mundane objects like Tylenol doped with coffee, tea or wine. Though the subjects captured are no larger than the tip of a needle, they’re recorded using “cross-polarization lighting techniques” that amplify the crystal's abstract patterns. The colorful, whimsical designs that result from the unusual marriage of science and art are pretty, plain and simple.
