Local film aficionados have enjoyed a growing number of Bay area film fests. This past weekend marked the launch of another one, Eckerd College's 10th Annual Environmental Film Festival. The free, eight-day event spotlights documentaries that focus on the world and its myriad issues, with each screening preceded by a short reception with the presenter and concluding with a question-and-answer session. During Tuesday's "Eckerd Alumni Night," '99 alumnus/co-director/director of cinematography Brian Eustis presents his film Exploring the Mother of Waters, about South China's Mekong Basin, and '04 alumnus Joe Murphy investigates Louisiana's vanishing coastline in his film Washing Away. For a complete schedule of screenings, visit environmentalfilmfest.com. Through March 1, 7 p.m. nightly (2 p.m. Sun., Feb. 24), Miller Auditorium, 4200 54th Ave. S., St. Petersburg.
