Downtown Tampa was “under attack” on Wednesday afternoon, or at least it looked like it.
The annual U.S. Special Operations Command’s “Battle in the Bay” demonstration took place in front of the Tampa Convention Center, and this year revolved around a mock scenario involving the “kidnapping” of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor.
As part of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) Week Conference, the live simulation involved 10 different partner nations using everything from helicopters, boats, drones, ATVs, and scuba divers, all working together to complete the rescue mission.
If you’re wondering, Jane was indeed rescued, and yes, there are probably countless bullet casings on the floor of the Hillsborough River.
SOF Week includes a marketplace where defense contractors and arms dealers show off their latest weaponry, and this week occurs as the U.S. is engaged in a war with Iran that has cost taxpayers at least $29 billion.
