Feel Good at Sunrise

With Magadog's latest

Sunrise
MAGADOG

(Citrus Records)

On the heels of its recent reunion, Magadog, for many years one of the Bay area's most loved bands, brings us Sunrise, a feel-good mix of ska and reggae. Since forming in 1992, Magadog has released four CDs and been featured on over 10 ska compilations, but, despite its limited stylistic palette, the band proves its can still make lively, fun music. True to form, Magadog continues to blend smooth, mellow pieces ("Sunrise," "Hearts on Fire") with raunchier, brassier songs like "Lita" and "Don't Talk to Me" that feature Ed Lowery's rough but almost bluesy vocals. It appears the extended break did them good. 4 stars
